Academia Non Grata is an alternative art school based in Estonia offering year round educational and art programing. We offer residencies to artists and students. About Academia Non Grata (ANG): Non Grata was established in 1998 as an outcry for creative action. Non Grata has a worldwide reputation for transgressive and culture forward performance art activities. Non Grata is a multi-generational group of artists preserving the anonymous individual to create art in collective. ANG is a nonprofit, international art school devoted to the study and practice of contemporary interdisciplinary art. An independent, alternative art school ANG is a non governmental, non accredited institution allowing for greater freedom in our artistic and educational programming. ANG Study Program ANG is without the traditional boundaries of fixed course schedules and locations. Educational programming takes place during festivals, workshops, courses, residencies, international travel, performance activities and individualized study programs. ANG cultivate students who are life long learners and independent artists forging the next generation of art and culture. Annual international festivals in Parnu include a film festival in the fall, print making festival in the winter and performance based festival in early summer. Festivals include exhibitions and workshops led by artists and educators from Estonia and around the world. Throughout the year ANG offers courses and workshops covering performance art, drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, photography, video, sound, writing and literature. Non Grata artists, ANG faculty, students and visiting artists share information and ideas and offer critical feedback on art production. Locations ANG is based in the NG Studios building in Tallinn and Non Grata House in Pärnu, the Baltic sea-side towns.
ANG Residencies ANG offers semester and year long academic residencies and one to six month artist residencies. Introduction ANG offers Artists in Residency in both Pärnu and Tallinn department. Those cities are located in Estonia, north-east Europe, between Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Russia. Tallinn is the capital of Estonia (ca 400 000 inhabitants), Pärnu is fifth biggest town in Estonia (ca 45 000 inhabitants), famous for its beautiful beach and resorts, located 130 km south-west from Tallinn. Residency artist In Pärnu will get a studio for working and separated 2 room apartment for living. Artists of all creative fields are eligible. Residence in Pärnu, Estonia At the Non Grata residents in Pärnu will be provided studio, kitchen, access to internet and AV equipment. For living there is room for living in house and also 2 room apartment beside the Pärnu river, 1 km away from Non Grata House. Academia Non Grata Address: Suur-Posti 16, II floor, Pärnu, Estonia. Description: Old wooden house with Academia Non Grata on upper floor. Nearby are open air market, small shopping center and hardware store. 10 min walking to the center and bus station, 20 min to the beach. Studio spaces: Common studio: 100 m2 2 studios: ca 20 m2 1 studio: ca 30 m2 Well-lighted studios with wooden floors are perfect for painting, writing, printmaking, computer work, installation, performance. Gallery space: In Pärnu are several art and cultural institutions where is possible to present works. For exhibitions we need to have necessary information in advance. Equipment: Simple tools (hammer, pinches, saw, electricity stuff, metal cutter, drill etc). Intaglio printing press. Internet connection. Computer work – video editing etc. Equipment for fee: Digital photo and video equipment, post production and editing. Living conditions: 2 room apartment in Pärnu, next to the river. 1 km away from studio. WC, kitchen with fridge and warm water, shower. Stove + electric heating. Beds, blankets, pillows.
Residence in Tallinn, Estonia At the Non Grata residents in Tallinn will be provided studio and separated living room. Possibility to make exhibition in gallery space. NG Studios Address: Vana Kalamaja 46-1 Tallinn 10415 Estonia Description: Old limestone house with studios on two floors by the sea. Nearby are centuries old abounded Patarei prison,. 10 min walking to the railway station with open air Russian market, shopping center, 20 min to the center. Sea is 200 meters. Gallery space: 40 m2 Studio space: 25 m2 Personal room: 18 m2 Equipment: Simple tools (hammer, pinces, saw, electricity stuff etc) Living conditions: Artist in residency will get a private room with bed and separate door 18 m2. Possibility to use WC and shower. Electric and stove heating in studio.
